Does AI finally make time travel possible?
I had heard about AI-generated influencers and, of course, I had come across a few videos, but it all felt a bit absurd. Then, while scrolling through X, I found a post that made me stop.
“An AI influencer travels back in time to 1536 to vlog about her experiences in Tudor London.”
I clicked immediately. A vlog in 1536. I wanted to know more. The way a centuries-old city is recreated with a “person” from today is impressive. Yes, it is AI incoherent in many ways. The simple fact of filming and wearing a modern outfit would have been enough for her to be labeled a witch and burned immediately, so you know… but hey, the vlog felt real.
The handheld camera, the way she speaks, and the details in the environment created an experience that, at moments, made me forget it was all a simulation.
I got to see streets, spaces, and interiors, all so detailed you got to see what the world might have been like centuries ago. Yet as if it were happening today.. And it is not just this video. This influencer has “traveled” backward to experience the Titanic and ancient Egypt.
First, it is a very effective way to learn history. Seeing a person inside that time period sparks your natural curiosity. Second, AI influencers are not new, but this approach stands out as one of the most effective uses of the format so far, a historical immersion in a single experience.
The fact that it is AI means there are no physical limitations when building these scenarios. Everything can be generated with painstaking detail. This allows spaces, situations, and moments to be fully imagined in a more or less consistent visualization of the past.
Sure, AI still makes mistakes and there’s a part where she’s attached to the ground as if she melted… lol, what?!
In the meantime though, if this is a new way to approach history, I’m in!
